Double helix design

Beautifully made as always by Gordon Russell

This wonderful Gordon Russell of Broadway double helix sideboard, model number 407, was designed by David Booth and Judith Ledeboer for the Festival of Britain exhibition in 1951. The sideboard is made in mahogany with top and sides veneered in Sapele. The door fronts are veneered and routered with vertical interwoven lines to reveal the white birch underneath, to create the iconic double helix design. Complete with original brass ring handles, the interior fitted a curved shelf and a cutlery drawer. A copper label on the back inscribed ‘Russell of Broadway’. Held in the V&A collection in London.
